Dude, where's my ROI?
So you got a fancy video made. Uploaded it to one of many social media platforms and... nothing. You look at your monitor, at the 5 views your video got, at the 3 likes, one of which is you from a personal account, and you shout into the abyss, 'Dude, where's my ROI?'
Social media platforms are a funny thing; not only do you have to please the algorithm, but also adhere to the unwritten rules of how to communicate your content on those platforms. This is the reason why you see so many videos with text on screen saying 'This hack changes the way you... bla bla bla' and it's a product video. So not really a hack, right? Or videos with text 'My grandma/mum/grandfather/dog/pigeon/handyman taught me this', and it's a useless hack or a product video. Or if you're on LinkedIn, then it's usually a random video (let's say two cats walking down a street) accompanied by a lengthy text about some sort of business lesson that you can find in that video. Yes, Bob, two cats walking down the street really do represent the current B2B climate.
Don't get us wrong, we're not making fun of all the above. Quite the opposite. We are saying these are great examples of how to communicate your video to the masses.
'But, dude, that's not what my video is about!'
Yes, it's not, so don't just copy/paste and call it a day. Put a twist on it. Understand the platform you're posting the video on and communicate it accordingly. Want some free advice?
Tell the production company that made you that fancy video to make an additional version for different platforms. TikTok, Insta, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, X (if that's your thing). And we're not saying just making the video vertical. Hell no, there's more to it. The accompanying text, the subtitles, the text on screen, the edit itself has to differ and the music used has to change. And maybe, just maybe, that comapny will put in the effort to see if your videos can jump on some sort of trend. To give it just a chance of surviving in this Wild West we call social media.
